Disaster Preparedness,
Response and Resilience (DPRR)

In times of a disaster, education takes a back seat as energy and resources are directed at the recovery of livelihoods and shelter. Our DPRR programmes aim to ensure that children affected by any kind of disaster are engaged in a safe and protected environment while families cope with the loss of shelter and livelihoods.

The focus of Reach to Teach's programmes and interventions is to address the safety and learning needs of children in times of any kind of disaster or emergency. This includes the safety of children from both natural and man-made disasters, pandemics, violence as well as other related emergencies that can adversely affect their lives.

We are creating a framework to make sure children are engaged and visible. As part of engaging the community in the education process, we are focusing on home learning programmes, capacity building of School Management Committees (SMCs) and creating frameworks for effective parental engagement. Wherever required, Reach to Teach will recommend local NGOs/agencies with whom the government may engage as partners for the implementation of disaster response programmes.

Reach to Teach's
Home Learning
Programme in
response to COVID-19

Reach to Teach has played a lead role in the design and rollout of the Home Learning Programme, which was created due to the closure of schools during the Covid-19 pandemic. Reach to Teach developed training modules and toolkits for teachers and education officials, home learning content for children, assessment questions and practical guidelines for parental engagement in home learning across the state.
