Assessments

Assessments help key stakeholders understand what students have learned, what they know, and what they can do. They are means and tools to measure student achievement and progress and help identify successes as well as gaps.

National Education Policy 2020 has set out a transformational agenda for assessment, moving the focus towards competency-based assessments that test higher-order skills such as analysis, critical thinking, and conceptual clarity. Measurements allow governments to identify who is learning and who is not so they can support schools and populations with the greatest need in a targeted manner and ensure equity in learning support.
Reach to Teach believes that assessment is important for tracking progress, planning next steps, reporting, and involving parents, children, and young people in learning. Assessment is central to our work and provides critical inputs for gap analysis. Assessing gaps enables us to create relevant tools and training frameworks to support actors across the system, in improving both teaching and learning outcomes. We use assessment as an internal tool to define and discern the gaps in the system, informing our work on continuous professional development and accreditation and creating frameworks for community engagement.
Working with SCERT, SSA and other relevant state agencies, we support the state governments in developing clear assessment systems that provide regular, immediate, and consistent data on interventions and assessments. This helps to plan state-wide reforms, strategies for intervention and support for teachers, schools, and system officials.
We support in
Setting clear expectations for the use of assessments
Collecting and using accurate data to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to have their achievements recorded and remedial support is planned
We believe that this helps provide greater targeted support for individual students as well as groups of students, to achieve grade appropriate outcomes.
